Blast Off!
K-Plus
will be "out
of this world" this week - when we blast
off into Outer Space! During the week
we'll learn lots of fun facts about the planets, discover why
the sun is so important to us, and learn some space words - like astronaut, stars and moon. During
the week we will also learn fun "space" songs and poems and even
try to learn the names of some of the planets! We'll make a
colorful shooting star mobile, design our own solar system with
fun stickers, make space bookmarks, use foam space shapes to
create our very own galaxies and use our awesome outer space
stencils to create original space scenes! Be on the look-out
for our very "spacial"
creations!
In Language
Arts we
will work on the "ip" and "it" word families
and learn our new sight words for the week: can, for, and
but. We'll
enjoy a game of
Boggle Junior and play word games using our magnetic
letters. Our great space adventure will include a special trip with
"The Cat in the Hat" when we read There's No Place Like Space! You
can be sure that we will all learn lots of fascinating facts about
space on that adventure! We will also enjoy still
another space journey when we read The Magic School Bus: Lost in
the Solar System. We'll join Ms. Frizzle
and her students as The Magic School Bus turns into a spaceship and
takes the class on a trip zooming through the atmosphere, to the Moon,
and beyond!
This week in Math, we
will work on the Number Relationships- one more
and two more.
We'll practice adding one or two items to a group of familiar
items - and discover how many items we then have in our group! We
will also practice the concept of one/two more on our Number Balance
and number charts. We'll play group games using our number
charts to practice finding the number that is one more than ...
and enjoy assembling a giant Solar System floor puzzle!
In our
Writing center, we
will practice our new sight words using crayons of
various colors as we write our words in rainbow writing. We
will also practice our eye/hand coordination, fine motor skills,
visual discrimination and printing skills using our wipe-off
booklets. Our journal writing this week will be all about
"outer space" - we'll write simple
sentences and draw a picture describing what we would see if
we traveled into space!
